    Back on the Treadle!

After so long, its about time I got back into my spinning and posting on The Woolly Mother. Work has tended to take over for quite a while, but now a balance has to be made. I’ve missed my spinning and creative side and intend to keep it going and moving. I have been knitting, although with commercial yarn and completed a few things, such as socks, jumpers, and finally finished the finer handspun short-sleeved cardy for my daughter. It turned out very well. Pics coming. Now onto new projects. Am currently spinning yarn for a cushion – had enough of making garments for a while, I want something different.…

    Spinning for Winter

Now that Christmas is out of the way, I’ve been trying to finish off some knitting, and start spinning for the coming winter – in plenty of time this year, I hope! Usually, I leave it too late and the ‘winter woollies’ are not ready in time. Although so far it seems to be a cool summer, it does give me chance to keep knitting instead of having to put it away until autumn. Hand-made Knitting Bag

Nothing quite like Hand-Made. It’s unique. And that goes for my new knitting bag, made for me by my daughter. It’s huge! Remember Mary Poppins bag, with the never-ending bottom?  Meet bag number two. I could fit half a dozen projects into it, and then some. I have a feeling it might be wise to work on one at a time. She made the bag from scraps of fabric left around from other projects but it turned out fabulous.         There are so many pockets I don’t know if I can fill them all. But I can sure have fun trying!

    Dog Rescue Industry in Australia

You know when it all gets a bit too much when you cannot find even a few minutes to sit and spin. That’s when something has to change. It did, though I’m not sure it will give me more time… A couple of months ago, an eight month old puppy arrived, a rescue pup actually. Very cute and lovable, and she will become a shadow to my six year old granddaughter. This little girl puppy is a poodle/silky terrier most likely, with more poodle characteristics than silky though she has a crinkly double coat and doesn’t miss a trick. Having been ‘rescued’ only a few months ago by a very…

    Production Spinning in Afghanistan

Spinning is a world-wide occupation, and still gaining momentum, either as a hobby or as employment. Women working at one yarn production company in Afghanistan are now able to spin with a spinning wheel instead of using a drop spindle. Production of spun yarn has thereby increased. With this new production equipment and the increase in yarn output more women have gained employment and the opportunity to attain a rise in their wages.
